Rebecca Gray m. 1790 Died 1852 . She was the
daughter of Francis Gray of Lehana, Co. Cork in Ireland.
"Algernon Gray Tollemache resided in Wellington for about 6 years. He arrived in 1849 at the age of 49. He was invited there to provide order to the land settlement." * |
|
* What he actually did was buy up as much of the land as possible and eventually mortgage it to settlers. At the age of 55, he returned to England and married my ancestor's daughter. According to one New Zealand newspaper article he was by today's standards a billionaire. When he died in the 1890s, a large portion of the remaining fortune went to his niece, Ada Hanbury-Tracy." April, 2004, Alan Tollemache kindly
offered this material and stated that this image is of
A.G. Tollemache's house in mid-nineteenth century
Wellington. "His property was the large house in
the foreground at right of the photograph."

Alan was also
able to supply this image - "This is an
1880s photograph of Algernon Gray
Tollemache."
[brother of Frederick James Tollemache linked above]. |

From the Site Guest Book
Alistair from London writes - "It's good to see my ancestor by marriage, the Hon. Felix Talmarsh [Tollemache] mentioned. You might like to know that he married Frances Julie PETERS by Special Licence April 27, 1833. She was christened July 20, 1805 at Dorking in Surrey and was the daughter of my 4 x great grandfather Henry PETERS, the banker, of Betchworth Castle near Dorking, and his wife Charlotte Mary."
