I plan to get these pages done by summer. Other stuff.. (sort of a generic list).. this qualifies as a FAQ. in some class they need to go through the cell and do a writeup on all of the organelles and make a model of a cell in some schools. (What is strange is I get questions from people from grade school through medical school students and professors [mostly about writting a course]). So I am trying to keep it within reach of kids and useful for upperlevel grad/med. students. Now I just need to go through clean up (typos and grammar) redo some pictures and do some animations [cell division, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing, etc.). Don't bother commenting on typo's/grammar unless you list the EXACT reference, URL and word or 'strange wording'.

There are a few places to look:

An On-Line Biology Book - Take a look It is MUCH more complete than what I wrote. I think you will all be presently surprised.

Nuclear Membrane:

Basically it functions as any membrane (like the main cell membrane). It contains the materials inside. By the nuclear membrane surrounding the nuclear material (the DNA/Chromosomes), it allows the enviroment inside the nucleus to be controlled. It helps in:
  • protecting the DNA from enzymes, or other damage
  • better control of gene regulation/expression
