Phospholipid Exchange Therapy

I did the Phospholipid Exchange Therapy (PLX) with my doctor from Nutrition Associates in 2005.

The basic idea behind the therapy is that the membranes of the cells in my body have been contaminated with some toxin or toxins and that this is causing all sorts of problems.  Mark Dalton's Cell Biology course includes a good explanation of how the cell membranes work  The therapy works by replacing the contaminated phospholipids with new clean ones, plus giving you a big dose of glutathione to help absorb the toxins as they come out.

The phospholipids in the cell membrane control the permeability of the cell, i.e. what can get in and what can get out of the cell. However, the fatty acids in the phospholipids can become contaminated, and if this happens, then the permeability will be affected and the cell won't be able to function properly. The contaminants include organophosphates, PCBs and heavy metals, and there can also be problems if the wrong fatty acids (things like eruric acid, one of the oils in canola oil) are attached as "tails" since this will mean that some phospholipids are longer than others. If this occurs then the two layers of the cell membrane can't slide past each other properly, again causing permeability problems.

For links to the information about PLX that I've found, have a look at my useful links page.

I started the IV injections in July 2005 and finished in early December 2005.  The injections were done approximately weekly and I did 18 in total.  I believe that I've seen good results from the treatment but the detox caused when the injections flush out the toxins has been pretty hard work.  Also, the reaction that I get to each treatment has varied quite a lot.  I'm not sure whether this means that I've been contaminated with many different toxins or something else.

The other thing that I've found is that I've done a lot of detox since finishing the IVs.  I assume that this is because the treatment has given my body the strength and resources to clean up the toxins on its own.

For some more information, please see my answers to questions that other people have had.  If you'd like to get in touch, please email me, Paul, at ataraxy @ zipworld . com . au (please remove the spaces in the address before sending).  I'm happy to discuss the PLX with anyone that is considering doing it.
