Urban Vistas

Built Worlds, Photo Technica, Sydney, 2003

A view from a series of windows depict one aspect of urban living. As more and more local councils push for high and medium density housing, the ¼ acre block of the Australian Dream is fast disappearing under a plethora of appartments. This is the new suburbia of the 21st century. Gone are the expansive backyards and concreted driveways of yesteryear. These are now replaced by underground car parks and designated communal 'green areas.'

The view out of the window becomes one of a world within worlds. Observed from a distance, people play out daily rituals often removed and remote from all those around them. Strangers pass in corridors, remain silent in lifts and don't speak to the neighbours. Worlds rarely collide. Despite being closer together we are further apart.
