REILLY COLLECTION CONTENTS LIST

17 audio cassette tapes recorded by Lesley Reilly nee Rourke and others at Wadeye (Port Keats), Northern Territory of Australia, 1973-1981. The collection was transferred to CD by Linda Barwick, Alice Springs, May 2001. The original tapes have been deposited in the audiovisual archive of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, and the CD versions have been deposited in the Wadeye Aboriginal Sound Archive, in Wadeye Knowledge Centre, where they are available for public access to members of Wadeye Community. This collection is one of the most important sources for early recordings of the Murrinh-patha song genres Thanpa, Malkarrin and Wurlthirri, and the Marri Ngarr song genre Lirrga. It also records the use of traditional song styles in church and liturgical services at Wadeye during this period, concerts of country music by Slim Dusty and Alex Hood, and various local bands such as the Last Sunset Band and the Iddiyi Bush Band.
