2. Richard Altamont Smythe (1838-1924) of Court-na-farrage, Co. Dublin. High Sheriff of Co. Louth 1871, sometime Captain of Salop Militia. m. 1869 (Dublin) Francis Anne Jane Bellingham (d. 1934) 4th daughter of Sir Alan Edward Bellingham, 3rd. Bt. There were children of the marriage.
3. Harriett Eleanor Ingoldsby Smythe (1840) m. Henry Bellingham, (His first marriage) - 2nd son of William Stewart Bellingham. There were children of the marriage. She died in 1880. 4. Henry William Ingoldsby Smythe (1842) m. 1878 Frances Hyatt. There were children of the marriage.
5. Colonel Ingoldsby Thomas William Somerset Smythe Lt. Colonel 85th Regiment. b. 1844 d. 1930 Married 1stly. 1869 Charlotte Elizabeth Anne Plowden, (died 1877) 2nd daughter of George Augustus Chichele Plowden, (Bengal Civil Service, India)

Colonel Ingoldsby Thomas William Somerset Smythe (1844) d. 1930 married 2ndly. 1882 Emily J. F. Shearin (d. 1928) widow of W. J. Curtoys of Calcutta, India and stepmother of Rev. William Francis Denny Curtoys. (NB Burke's Irish Family Records publ. c. 1976 has Emily J.F. - Curtoys papers call her Emma)

6. William Frederick Fortescue Smythe (1845) ("of Adelaide S. Australia") d. 1882 - married 1878 Jessie Mabel Laurie (who married secondly unknown) A daughter, Helen Barbara Smythe was born (1879) of this marriage. Helen Barbara Smythe married (1903) John Henry Jenner, son of John Jenner of Chisenbury, Wilts. She died in 1965 leaving 2 sons and 1 daughter. Her husband died c. 1930.

Jessie Mabel Laurie: Born: 1 Jan 1851 Port Adelaide, South Australia. Died: 29 Jun 1928 Brompton, South Australia. She was " ... well-known in Adelaide as a writer of serials (Paul Depasquale, A Critical History of South Australian Literature 1836-1930), Jessie (Waterhouse) was the eldest of 8 children of Buxton Forbes Laurie, pilot and harbourmaster at Port Adelaide, and his wife Mary Small. She married (Irishman) William Frederick Fortescue Smythe in Feb 1878, and they had a son [died young] and a daughter. She was widowed in 1882. In 1891 she married the widower John Immyns (Jack) Waterhouse. There is no record of children ..."

7. Somerset Albert Middleton Smythe (1847) m 1869 Evelyn Casey. There was one child of the marriage - he was Robert Smythe b.1870 who married before 1898 Rose Yerbury (d.1918). He disappeared in North America in 1932. I son and 1 daughter of the marriage.

9. Arthur Meade Smythe (1851) d. 1920 Electrical Engineer. He married (1878) Alice Louisa Kemmis (d.1928) widow of Reverend William H. Walker, Rector of Nacton, Suffolk and 2nd daughter of Henry Richard Kemmis (Barrister-at-law) of Newberry, Coolock and Robuck, Co. Dublin and later of 13, Norfolk Crescent, Bath, Somerset.

He broke a hip and his health very rapidly deteriorated. He is survied by his widow, Wynn, and his three step-children - Alex, Penelope and Tim."

Ronald Smythe - Educated at Queen's College Oxford (BA 1946, MA 1951) and Ely Theological College. Head of History Dept. St. George's Jerusalem 1952-1954, Ordained 1955.

Senior Lecturer and Counsellor, Westminster Pastoral Foundation from 1970. Retired.

Hon. Freeman of Worshipful Company of Farriers, 1955; Freeman of City of London, 1956; Hon. Freeman of Worshipful Company of Loriners, 1962; Yeoman, Worshipful Company of Saddlers, 1963; OBE, 1956. Eminent equestrian and famous international show jumper and author (under name of Pat Smythe) of numerous works on riding and adventure stories for children. Her childhood and early life may be read in her autobiographical book "Jump For Joy".

10. Frances Isabella Anne Smythe (1853) m.1 Edmond Charles Ribton Byrne de Satur, youngest son of Lawrence Byrne of Dublin. There were 3 daughters of the marriage. He died in 1885. She married secondly in 1913 Charles Ashton F.R.G.S. JP MA. There were no children of the marriage.

11. Herbert Ralph Smythe (1854) ("of Adelaide S. Australia") m. c. 1882 Frances Adelaide Ayliffe (d. 1913). He died in 1922. There was 1 child, a daughter, of the marriage - Lucy Barbara Ingoldsby Smythe (1883) m. 1911 Arthur Tarlton Jefferis. She died in 1917. There was a son and a daughter of the marriage. He remarried (unknown) and died c. 1960.

Jefferis, Barbara (a.k.a. Jefferis, Barbara Tarlton; Hinde, Mrs John ) Also writes as Margaret Sydney. Born: 25 Mar 1917 Adelaide, South Australia.

"Daughter of Lucy Barbara Ingoldsby (Smythe) and Tarlton Jefferis, Barbara was educated at Riverside (Adelaide) and the University of Adelaide (B Arts, not completed). In 1939 she married John Hamilton Hinde, ABC film critic.

She moved to Sydney in her twenties and worked in daily and magazine journalism, then as a freelance radio writer. She has written more than 50 radio dramas and dramatised documentaries as well as serials, scientific and educational programmes ..."
