The Cricket Match

The picture is of the land at the side of the Springs (1926) which is now (2001) owned by the Springs Hotel and forms part of the golf course. The village team used to play on it. Harold Madgwick used to look after the wicket and he manoeuvred the roller by hand every Friday night. Both Harold and his brother Bill used to play for the village team. This information was given by Maurice Madgwick (son of Harold), who currently works at the Springs Hotel - both on the golf course and in the hotel gardens - and still lives in the village.
