The Australian Government is spending $8m of your money to promote Islam.

A glossy 28 page colour booklet, Appreciating Islam, has been published by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, supported by the "Living in Harmony" initiative, which is administered hy Amanda Vanstone's Dept of Immigration & Multicultural Affairs. (All this is stated on the back).

Among the claims it makes are:

"The Australian people need not fear islam as it is not a new and foreign ideology. Islan has an inherent beauty".

"Islam sees a woman, whether single or married, as an individual in her own right".

"Among the reasons for the rapid and peaceful spread of islam are the simplicity of its doctrine."

"Jihad does not mean holy war".

"The life and property of all citizens in an islamic state are considered sacred whether a person is a muslim or not."
